Discovering the future of the Built Environment at BEX Asia

Coinciding with IBEW 2023's Built Environment Leaders' Summit is BEX Asia 2023, the preeminent trade exhibition for the Built Environment sector in Asia, set to take place from September 6 to 8, 2023. BEX Asia stands strategically poised to provide a comprehensive sourcing platform designed to cater to the requirements of both local and Southeast Asian attendees. The exhibition will present a diverse array of market-ready and groundbreaking solutions, encompassing sustainable construction materials, energy-efficient innovations, and cutting-edge technologies spanning air purification, digitalization, and intelligent building management.

“Net-zero buildings are already here. To minimise their carbon footprint when building and operating buildings, governments and companies are emphasising sustainable construction practices and green building designs along with operations. Our passion at Johnson Controls is to build smarter, healthier, and more sustainable buildings, thus industry events like BEX Asia provide us with a platform to share and gain valuable insights into the latest trends, challenges, opportunities, and best practices in the Built Environment industry,” remarked Peter Ferguson, General Manager for Southeast Asia at Johnson Controls, who is an exhibitor at BEX Asia.

Included within the exhibition's comprehensive schedule, the SGBC Seminar offers attendees the opportunity to accrue Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points, enhancing their professional qualifications. BEX Asia will further showcase a range of on-site product demonstrations by exhibitors, coupled with industry announcements, ensuring participants access to more than 20 hours of enriching content through both the Green View Seminar and the Technology Demonstration Area.

On September 7, 2023, attendees can also gain valuable insights at the Workplace Safety Forum, a collaborative effort by the Specialists Trade Alliance of Singapore (STAS) and the Workplace Safety and Health Council (WSHC).

Moreover, BEX Asia is joining forces with partners Camfil and ebm-papst to advance toward a more sustainable future through participation in the Plant-A-Tree initiative. This endeavor, aimed at carbon emission offsetting, encompasses a range of endeavors, including the creation of a carbon footprint measurement solution in collaboration with Singapore Polytechnic. The culmination of this program will involve the planting of 50 trees following the event, underscoring the unwavering commitment to fostering a more environmentally conscious planet.

Forging alliances for industry advancement

Participants will also have the opportunity to observe the ceremonial signing of noteworthy Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs), showcasing Singapore's resolute commitment to fostering cooperation and advancement within the Built Environment domain. These agreements serve as tangible manifestations of the country's devotion to propelling innovation, sustainability, and overall industry progress. By uniting influential stakeholders across diverse sectors, these MoUs will facilitate meaningful collaboration, the exchange of knowledge, and the driving force behind the continued advancement of the Built Environment sector.

One of these partnerships involves a collaboration between Singapore Polytechnic (SP) and KPMG, where they will collaborate to advance the net-zero approach and create a sustainability ecosystem within Singapore. This endeavor aligns with the country's Net Zero vision and its dedication to cultivating future talents. Furthermore, SP is set to formalize an MoU with AKZONOBEL, aiming to jointly promote the adoption of green building solutions.

The Built Environment sector is poised for another significant development with the upcoming Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) and CPG Corporation. This MoU aims to cultivate enhanced industry cooperation, particularly in sustainable initiatives such as decarbonization. The collaboration between NYP and CPG will encompass various endeavors, including the creation of Pre-Employment Training (PET) modules, Continuing Education and Training (CET) courses, applied innovation projects, industry attachments, and internships. These endeavors will not only provide opportunities for upskilling the current workforce but will also inspire and equip future talents to enter the Built Environment sector, arming them with skills in alignment with the latest Industry Transformation Map.

Additional information regarding the MoUs and their respective initiatives will be disclosed during the events.

Mr Yip Je Choong, Managing Director of Singapore and Indonesia, RX, said that “This year’s International Built Environment Week, through The Built Environment Leaders’ Summit and BEX Asia, plays a vital role as a dynamic platform, bringing together visionaries and decision-makers to connect, ignite creativity, share knowledge, and inspire change. The summit stands as a beacon of thought leadership, sparking interdisciplinary dialogues and fuelling innovative thinking for the future of the Built Environment. Meanwhile, the exhibition showcases cutting-edge solutions, offering tangible pathways to address the challenges faced by the community. Together, IBEW’s pipeline of events fosters meaningful collaborations and drives advancements towards a sustainable and future-ready Built Environment.”

The Built Environment Leaders' Summit of IBEW 2023 (scheduled for September 6, 2023) and the BEX Asia 2023 exhibition (taking place from September 6 to 8, 2023) will be conducted as in-person events at the Sands Expo & Convention Centre.
