American Standard Design Award 2023 (ASDA) Celebrated Winners of the Competition

The awards ceremony and exhibition showcased purposeful design solutions for multi-generational living across Asia Pacific


On 12th July 2023, LIXIL, the innovative manufacturer of water and housing products, organized a prestigious awards ceremony and exhibition at The Arts House Singapore. The purpose of this event was to honor the exceptional winners and finalists of the American Standard Design Award (ASDA) 2023.


The evening comprised the presentation of the awards and a grand gala dinner, adding to the celebratory atmosphere.

To further enrich the experience for the winners and finalists, LIXIL arranged an exclusive design workshop at their esteemed LIXIL Design Studio the following day. This workshop provided a valuable opportunity for participants to engage in collaborative design activities and enhance their skills under the guidance of industry experts.


As part of the itinerary, participants were treated to an insightful architectural tour, offering a glimpse into inspiring structures and design concepts. Additionally, they had the privilege of exploring LIXIL's showroom at 24, Mohd Sultan Road. This visit allowed them to witness firsthand the impressive range of products and solutions LIXIL offers.


Under the captivating theme of "A Home to Love, A Space for Everyone," the ASDA embarked on a quest to unlock the potential of design, aiming to create a bathroom environment that every member of the family would cherish.

The second edition of this esteemed competition was officially launched on 20th September 2022 and welcomed the participation of Second Year and above tertiary design school students hailing from ten diverse countries across Asia. These nations include Australia, Cambodia, India, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.


Experiencing remarkable growth, the competition garnered nearly 1,500 remarkable entries, marking a twofold increase compared to the previous year. From February to May 2023, these entries were diligently evaluated by a panel of accomplished creative minds and esteemed thought leaders from across the region.


On 28th April 2023, the National winners were revealed, marking a significant milestone in the competition. These exceptional individuals then proceeded to the highly anticipated Asia-Pacific judging round, where the best of the best vied for the coveted title.


Finally, on 24th May 2023, the announcement that the world had been eagerly awaiting came to fruition—the recipient of the prestigious Asia-Pacific Grand Prize was revealed.

The Winners of American Standard Design Award 2023 are the following:

"I felt an overwhelming sense of happiness and pride in winning this award. I joined the ASDA competition because I wanted to test my abilities and learn from others in the field. Seeing the work of fellow participants has allowed me to broaden my perspective and gain valuable insights. I also want to thank the judges for their valuable feedback and comments. The judging session was truly the highlight for me. These experiences have been instrumental in my growth as a designer, allowing me to continuously strive towards becoming better."


The evaluation process for the entries took place at two distinct levels – the National Level and the APAC Level. At the national level, a prestigious panel of esteemed architects and design luminaries from each country diligently assessed the submissions received from local participants. This rigorous assessment ensured that entries were evaluated by experts well-versed in the nuances of their respective regions.

Moving beyond the national level, the competition expanded to encompass the entire Asia-Pacific region. Here, the 1st Prize Winners from each country entered a new evaluation phase, as they faced scrutiny from an accomplished Asia-Pacific judging panel. This assessment aimed to identify and recognize the most exceptional submission, ultimately determining the recipient of the highly sought-after APAC Grand Prize.

Arch. Le Troung, Founder and CEO of TT – Associates and a distinguished member of the APAC jury, expressed deep admiration for this year's designs, noting their profound understanding of every aspect, from spatial considerations to materials, colors, lighting, and ventilation conditions.


"I am truly impressed that this year's designs demonstrate an in-depth understanding of each space, material, color, lighting, and ventilation conditions. Overall, the entries reflect clear purpose, attractiveness, allure, and high feasibility. And within it, there are technical elements, sanitary technology, convenience, and aesthetics as core values that we all aim for. ASDA has played a very crucial role in initiating and creating challenges for young designers."

Each National winner was awarded a cash prize of USD 2,000, while the highly esteemed APAC Grand Prize winner claimed a total cash prize of USD 5,000.


As an additional privilege, the APAC winner and finalists were extended an invitation to partake in an enriching half-day tour and a design workshop at the esteemed LIXIL Design Centre located in Singapore. This exclusive opportunity gave them valuable insights and enhanced their design capabilities.
