Bentley Systems Announces Seequent’s Acquisition of Geothermal Simulation Leader Flow State Solution

Combines Seequent’s Geological Modeling with Flow State Solutions’ Geothermal Simulation Software

Bentley Systems, Incorporated, a leading provider of infrastructure engineering software, made an announcement today. Seequent, known as The Bentley Subsurface Company, has officially entered into an agreement to acquire Flow State Solutions, a prominent player in geothermal simulation software. This strategic move reaffirms Seequent's role as the preeminent provider of comprehensive subsurface software solutions for the geothermal sector.

Flow State Solutions specializes in geothermal reservoir, wellbore, and surface network simulation software, enabling project developers and operators to gain enhanced insights into geothermal resources. This, in turn, aids in optimizing asset development and improving well performance. The integration of Flow State Solutions' Volsung portfolio with Seequent's expertise results in the most comprehensive end-to-end solution for reservoir analysis. Leapfrog Energy's intricately crafted subsurface models can seamlessly interoperate with Flow State Solutions' simulation environment, allowing for a comprehensive visualization of a geothermal asset.

Prominent figures in the geothermal industry have already embraced both solutions for a deeper understanding of their resources. Simon Webbison, Vice President of Exploration and Resource Management at Ormat Technologies Inc., expressed his enthusiasm, “Ormat Technologies is one of the largest and most active geothermal companies globally, and we are delighted to see the combination of Seequent and Flow State Solutions software capabilities through this acquisition. We already use both companies’ software to better understand our geothermal assets and predict performance, and we are looking forward to working with the joint team to continue driving our success.”

Graham Grant, CEO of Seequent, expressed his excitement, stating, “We are delighted to welcome the Flow State Solutions team to Seequent. Geothermal has the potential to help solve the world’s biggest energy challenges. With this acquisition, Seequent’s best-in-class subsurface analysis software enables a full understanding of geothermal asset performance.”

Jonathon Clearwater, co-founder of Flow State Solutions, and now a Technical Domain Expert in Reservoir Engineering at Seequent, expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “We are excited to join Seequent’s energy team. By combining Seequent’s expertise and our technical capability in geothermal modeling, we are looking forward to making a significant contribution to the renewable energy transition through improved management of natural resources.”
