American Standard Design Award seeks to inspire and showcase purposeful designs and practical solutions from Asia-Pacific’s next generation of designers.

LIXIL, a leading innovator in water and housing products, is excited to introduce the third installment of the American Standard Design Award (ASDA). ASDA serves as a platform for emerging designers in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region to exhibit their inventive talents and apply their theoretical knowledge in practical ways.

The tourism industry in the APAC region is experiencing a notable upsurge, with a projected annual growth rate of 6.4% from 2021 to 2024. While leisure travel is intended to be a source of rejuvenation, it can often become quite exhausting due to tightly packed itineraries designed to maximize one's time abroad. Conversely, business travelers usually have busy schedules to ensure their trips are worthwhile. Therefore, a thoughtfully planned and purposefully designed space can offer a much-needed sanctuary at the end of the day.

With a specific focus on the design of Hospitality Bathroom Spaces, this year's ASDA competition aims to underscore the significance and relevance of a meticulously designed hospitality environment. The goal is to create a space that not only relaxes, but also inspires and rejuvenates travelers, under the theme "Home Away from Home."

“As the leader in bathroom solutions with purposeful design and pioneering technologies, American Standard is excited to announce the third edition of the ASDA bathroom design competition. With our expertise in delivering bathrooms that exude style, quality, and reliability, ASDA provides real-world design opportunities for the future generation. This year’s theme of ‘Home Away from Home’ focuses on bringing a sense of belonging and comfort for travelers. We look forward to seeing innovative ideas that show how the bathroom can transform a hotel room into a comfortable and homely space” said Antoine Besseyre des Horts, Leader, LIXIL Global Design, Asia.

The previous edition of the competition witnessed a remarkable surge in participation, with nearly 6,000 entries from eight countries, almost doubling the number from the inaugural edition.

ASDA 2024 is open to design students in their second year and beyond, hailing from nine countries in the Asia-Pacific region, namely Australia, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, New Zealand, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam.

In the previous year, the competition received an impressive number of entries, totaling nearly 6,000 submissions from eight different countries, which was almost double the number compared to the inaugural edition.

For the upcoming ASDA 2024, the competition is open to tertiary design school students starting from their second year of study and above. It is available to candidates from nine countries in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, including Australia, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, New Zealand, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Sin Ponleu, the Grand Prize Winner of the ASDA 2023 Multigenerational Bathroom Space Design, expressed the value of the competition, stating, “ASDA provides design enthusiasts with the opportunity to apply their knowledge and expertise to real-world situations. We had the chance to showcase our ideas to industry experts, who offered valuable insights and provided great motivation throughout the competition.”

Registration for ASDA is free and begins on September 28, 2023, with the deadline for entry submissions set for January 14, 2024. All entries will be subjected to National Judging, which will be conducted by a panel of distinguished architects and design experts. The National Winners will be announced in April 2024 and will advance to compete at the APAC Level for the prestigious APAC Grand Prize in May 2024.

At the National Level, the top three winners have the opportunity to secure cash prizes ranging from USD 1,000 to USD 2,000. The ultimate APAC Grand Prize Winner will receive an additional USD 3,000 and an exclusive chance to visit the LIXIL Design Studio in Singapore.
