Exploring the creative journey of PDP Architects and their commitment to sustainable design solutions

Since its inception in 1992 and incorporation in 1998, PDP Architects has been at the forefront of the architectural industry, driven by the creative vision of its Managing Director, Ar. Cathy Saldana. Inspired by her natural artistic talent and early exposure to construction sites through her father's work, Ar. Cathy’s passion for geometry and the arts led her to pursue a career in architecture.

PDP Architects now specializes in an extensive range of projects, demonstrating versatility and expertise across various sectors. Their diverse portfolio encompasses hospitality, high-rise buildings, industrial facilities, cold storage, retail, food and beverage establishments, and corporate offices. Currently, the firm is also in the field of large-scale master planning and public infrastructure projects, driven by a desire to contribute to nation-building efforts.

PDP Architects initially operated with partners but now stands under Ar. Cathy's sole leadership. Emerging from the challenges posed by the pandemic, the firm has made room for new talents, a younger generation of carefully selected associates who bring new energy and fresh perspectives. Ar. Cathy envisions a transformation within the company, updating practices and continuously embracing technological advancements to enhance creativity. This ongoing process is set to continue until 2024 with new added leadership among the selected associates.

Working With Light

At the core of PDP Architects' design approach lies a philosophy inspired by a line from the movie "The Lake House": working with light. Orientation and micro-siting are critical to a structure’s relationship with the light at day. Sustainability is also an integral aspect of her every project, ensuring that designs align with environmentally friendly principles. Moreover, the firm takes pride in crafing unique architectural imprints that reflect the visionary owners they collaborate with.

To create customized designs that meet clients' needs, PDP Architects places a premium on open communications and collaboration. The firm conducts thorough research, encourages clients and their teams to contribute by sharing their expertise and ideas, and leverages technology platforms for brainstorming sessions and workshops. Drawing inspiration from travels, Cathy also knows that the team must likewise be exposed to new design experiences worldwide. Everyone now remains dedicated to achieving project goals while maintaining open lines of communication with all stakeholders.

Balancing aesthetic considerations with practical concerns such as budget, timeline, and building codes is a paramount priority for PDP Architects. The company’s goals in its growth are to align with project typologies it excels in. The firm is commited to adhering to milestones and processes, striving to attain the elusive balance between aesthetics and practicality.

Bright Future

PDP Architects' dedication has not gone unnoticed, as evidenced by the numerous awards and recognitions received. Among these accolades, the corporate office building, Damosa Diamond P, garnered international and local design awards in 2021 and 2022. In May 2023, their One Tolentino East residential towers project received a design award at the International Property Awards. Ar. Cathy cherishes these achievements as celebrations of the entire team's efforts and acknowledges the value they hold in the industry.

Looking towards the future, PDP Architects envisions a path of continuous growth and evolution. The firm is eager to collaborate with renowned design giants, both locally and internationally, and expand its presence in the industry. As new leaders emerge and the company moves to a new office space, PDP Architects remains dedicated to valuing its work and its contributions to the field of architecture. 4. Digitize and Embrace Technology

Paper files are not only fire hazards but also costly to store. Prioritizing digitization and organizing records is essential. Identify areas that can be digitized, from simple transmittals to the entire bidding process, while maintaining proper archival of selected documents.

5. Hire Based on Character, Analyze Creative and Technical Prowess and Regularly Review Performance

Sometimes, the best talents may not shine in interviews but demonstrate their commitment and tenacity through project delivery. Keep and value those individuals with such qualities.

While digital and social media offer exposure, popularity alone doesn't equate to professional ranking and standards. Visibility is important, but integrity and competence should be the primary focus.

9. Accreditation and Performance Records of Suppliers, Vendors, and Contractors Matter

The strength of a designer lies not only in their abilities but also in the capabilities of the suppliers and contractors they collaborate with. Regularly review the competence, skills, and performance records of these partners.
